OFTEC Registered technicians are oil specialists who have been trained on modern, high-performance appliances. They are recognised by Government as ‘Competent’ in the same way that CORGI installers are competent to work with gas.

Under the Building Regulations, before an oil-fired appliance or an oil storage tank is installed or replaced, a Building Notice must be obtained from the local authority. A fee is payable, and the work should be inspected by the Building Control Officer.

OFTEC Registered technicians are exempt from this requirement, and can self-certify work for which they are Registered. This saves you time and money. They can also give advice on how to improve the efficiency of your heating system, and on energy saving measures suitable for your home.

Oil burner keeps tripping the lockout button? - The little red button on the box of the oil burner itself. If your oil burner stops running, the first thing you should check is the reset button. If you press it and the burner fires up then that was the problem. If the button should trip again then there is a fault and you should schedule a service call immediately. Do not keep resetting the button and ignoring the problem.

Why does it trip? - It is a safety device. It shuts the burner down when it thinks there is a problem. Either there isn't a flame or the the photo cell sensor is faulty

In preventing leaks you could also be preventing possible legal action for contaminating drinking water supplies, streams or rivers. New legislation relating to contaminated land operates on a polluter pays principle. If your tank pollutes a neighbours property or a water course you could face potential legal action and the costs of the clean up. Check for signs of rust poor support, oil leaks and lack of a bunded catchment area

Integrally bunded tanks offer increased protection and peace of mind over possible spillages from leaking or damaged tanks and concrete bunds. They provide a quick and effective installation, at lower cost than a conventional bund, and for non bunded installations the peace of mind out weighs the marginal cost increase.
